Context: Mail, replying to a quote

Example: you write "I'll get back to you," and Souffleuse suggests the rest in grey, "before the end of the week." Tab accepts it, Esc clears it.

Why “Souffleuse”

Like a theatre prompter

The souffleuse — the prompter — is a theatre craft we let quietly fade away. A person crouched at the edge of the stage, who whispers the line to the actor right when they stumble, just loud enough for them, never for the house. She never comes up to take a bow. The applause goes to the actor, and that's exactly as it should be. We wrote this software in the same spirit: there when you hesitate, invisible the rest of the time. What you write isn't hers: it stays yours.

Whisper the word, never steal it.

At the right moment

It only appears when you hesitate

Souffleuse doesn't blanket your screen in grey text. It follows the rhythm of your typing and only offers a suggestion the moment you slow down — the way a real prompter waits for the actor to stumble before slipping them the line.

While they speed up

she stays quiet. She speaks only to the silence, and it's there, in the hollow of the hesitation, that she places the right word.

Steady typing, then silence: that's when she speaks.
In detail

What she does

Nine uses, one tool

i. — on stage

The suggestion under your cursor

A grey suggestion, right where you write.

In Mail, Notes, Messages, your web browser — almost anywhere you write on your Mac — the suggestion appears in grey, just under your cursor, without disturbing anything around it.

Privacy

What you write never leaves

Private by design.

Souffleuse only works because it reads what you write. So we made sure it has no way to repeat it: no account, no cloud, no "we anonymise it." There simply is no way out.

  • Local from end to end

Everything happens on your Mac. Your text passes through no server, ever.

  • Nothing leaves, ever

Just once, at install, Souffleuse connects to set itself up. After that, nothing leaves your Mac.

  • Kept under lock and key

What it learns of your style is locked on your Mac. You alone can read it.

Good to know

A few questions

Which Macs are supported?

Souffleuse runs on Macs with a recent Apple chip (the M1, M2, M3 models and later) on macOS Sonoma (version 14) or newer. Older Intel Macs are unfortunately not supported. If in doubt, the Apple menu (top-left of the screen) > "About This Mac" tells you your model at a glance.

What leaves my Mac?

Day to day, nothing at all. The only time Souffleuse connects is at install, to set itself up. After that, your text and everything it learns about you stay on your Mac, and it works even without an internet connection.

How much does it cost?

Souffleuse Studio is a one-time purchase: from €29 with Lightning, or €39 by card. No subscription, no daily quota: you buy a license, activate it on your Mac, and write.

How is it different from a regular spellchecker?

A spellchecker waits until you're done to underline what's wrong. Souffleuse does the opposite: it offers the next words before you write them, in your own tone, and learns from what you keep. It doesn't correct after the fact, it whispers while you write.

Which apps does it work in?

Anywhere macOS lets it read the text field: Mail, Notes, Messages, Safari and most browsers, and the vast majority of Mac apps. The few apps that keep their door closed? It simply stays silent there. And you can ask it to stay silent yourself, app by app, in its settings.

What about my passwords?

It never sees them. Secure fields (passwords, codes, card numbers) are marked as such by macOS, and Souffleuse looks away: no reading, no suggestion, no trace.

Does it slow my Mac down?

It's built for Apple chips: while you write, it answers in a fraction of a second; the moment you rest your hands, it goes to sleep and frees the memory. A presence in the wings, not a second lead taking over the stage.

How does translation work?

You pick a conversation's language once; it remembers, and translates as the exchange unfolds, in a small, quiet panel. Like everything else, translation happens on your Mac: your messages don't go off to be translated somewhere else.

How do I uninstall it?

Like any Mac app: drag it from Applications to the Trash. What it had learned of your style lives in a single, encrypted folder on your Mac; delete that too and nothing remains. There is no copy anywhere else, by construction.

The right word, whispered from the wings.
